How to Promote Your Blog Using Email

This entry is part [part not set] of 14 in the series How to Start a Profitable Blog

Welcome to lesson #10 of your profitable blogging course.

Haven’t we come a long way already?

We’ve set up your blog, researched and written blog posts and now we’re promoting your site.

Today is no different, in that we’re going to start talking about email marketing.

As a side note, you can download today’s worksheet by clicking here.

If there’s one thing that most bloggers regret its that they didn’t start an email newsletter sooner.

There’s a simple reason for this: when you have a large email list then you can literally drive traffic (and so money) on demand.

Every time you launch a new blog post you can fire off an email to your list.

Every time you want to earn a bit more money you can send out an email with an affiliate link in it.

And nobody can take this list away from you.

Here’s the real secret of blogging for profit then: you need to be using all those other promotional strategies we’re discussing to drive as many people as possible to your newsletter. Once they’re subscribed then you’re safe.

The bigger your list is, the more traffic you can generate on demand. In short, the bigger your list, the more money you can make.

Convinced?

Good.

Now setting up your own email newsletter doesn’t have to be complicated.

I’ve tested out all sorts of ways to build a list and personally there are two tools which I rely on beyond any other.

Tool #1: Email Software

Setting up an email newsletter is something that’s going to require a small investment, but its one that should pay you back time and again in the years to come.

The first thing that you’re going to need is a subscription to an optin email service.

There are quite a range of different options out there, and I’ve tested most of them in recent years.

Based on the ideal combination of features and cost, my personal recommendation is for Aweber.

Aweber makes it super-simple to build opt-in forms and to set up autoresponders. What’s more, the costs are very reasonable, especially if you’re just starting out.

If you haven’t already, then, sign up for your account here.

Tool #2: Subscription Testing

Let me tell you a little secret. Many bloggers – most in fact – aren’t getting anywhere near as many subscribers as they could be.

In other words they’re leaving money on the table.

How come?

Well they sign up for an email service, create a single sign-up form and slap it somewhere on their site.

Then they think they’re done.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

Indeed, the secret of growing your email list as quickly as possible to to constantly test out a range of different opt-in forms, to see which forms in which places get the best response rates.

For this I recommend a plugin called Thrive Leads.

Thrive Leads lets you build dozens of different types of optins, each with different colors, styles, text and more. There are almost limitless possibilities for where you can put your forms and how they look.

The tool then gently tests all the various options, helping you decide which are most effective.

After just a few weeks of testing many bloggers find they can double or even treble the number of email subscribers they get each day. In essence they’ve just doubled their income!

So grab a subscription to Aweber and a copy of Thrive Leads today and see just how quickly you can start growing your email subscriber list.

Email marketing is the single most powerful blog marketing strategy around. Follow this simple guide in order to start growing your traffic exponentially - and watch your online income grow alongside.
